The image above is a lovely summary of our subject matter shared in last Sunday’s All Together service. We reflected on the challenge that Joshua was given having to fill the very large boots of Moses, the former leader of the Israelites who had guided them through the wilderness. We remembered that there was still the significant challenge of crossing the river Jordan, as well as battles with fortified cities to come along the way. No wonder the charge from God to be “strong and courageous” was given 3 times within the space of 9 verses! Indeed the familiar words of the old chorus; “Be bold, be strong”, together with our home grown one including the words “ ...have courage and wait”, remain with me more than three days after the service.
Hopefully reassurance from God, will also be and remain with us all, in the journeys in and through life, that lie ahead of us. We were invited to choose a quote relating to courage towards the end of the service. If I had to choose one for us all, again it would come from scripture as seen below.
