Despite the many advances in technology, scientists such as meteorologists and seismologists, who are employed to forecast the future of natural events can still be caught out by the fickleness of Mother Nature. Examples this week include the devastating earthquake in Mexico City and Hurricane Maria, which grew at an alarming speed over 24 hours, and is now the seventh major storm this year to blast through so-called ‘hurricane alley’ in the Caribbean. While our thoughts and prayers are will all those affected by these disasters, it reminds us that we live in a very fragile and unpredictable world, one where certainty about the future is often out of reach.
Alongside our Gospel reflection on Sunday, we celebrated with Lila and her family as her son Richard was welcomed into the family of the Church. His baptism with the accompanying praise songs, candles and little rubber duck, reminded me that God is with us in the good as well as the difficult times of our lives, at every step of the journey.
Enjoy the weekend ahead.
