Earlier this week, whilst at the YMCA, I had the opportunity to watch a “Puddle Ducks” class held in the swimming pool. Here, tiny babies under the age of 12 months are introduced to the joys of water through an instructor and parent, whereby they quickly become confident when splashing around and swimming (both aided and unaided). The theory is that these fun classes help the children to have fun in the water, taking away fear, whereby they flourish in future lessons when learning swimming techniques. So there is singing, splashing and eventually swimming, and it is great to see the growth that the little ones display in confidence.
Last Sunday, we started a series whereby we are focussing on confidence, not this time relating to water and how we swim in it, but relating to the whole of our life; whereby we are invited to find our confidence and experience it in Jesus. Having started last week looking at the blessings (physical and primarily spiritual) that we receive from Christ, we’ll continue through October and November to celebrate further elements of these blessings. We too, will have fun, there will be singing and perhaps (with the number of baptisms lined up!) splashing too!
I pray that our individual and communal confidence in our Lord will continue to grow, and I hope you can join us for some of these sermons.
