Sometimes preaching feels like saying something new and exciting and sometimes it feels like "teaching grandmother to suck eggs". On Sunday it felt very much like the latter as I spoke about giving as sharing our time, money, skills and possessions in the first part of our teaching series on giving. After the service I was completely overwhelmed as two different people presented me with gifts after the service just because they had thought of me. The kindness and generosity shown to me on Sunday and at many other times suggests that maybe generosity, giving and sharing are already beautiful characteristics of our church community. That generous spirit is certainly replicated time and time again in so many of us and I recognise it in the much loved Vi Palmer who we sadly said goodbye to earlier this week. She was incredibly generous with her time as she visited so many and it is such a beautiful testament to her life that so many replicated that generous giving of time by spending lots of time with her in the last few weeks and months of her life.
Over the next few weeks in church we are going to continue to think about giving as we enter a period of intentional giving towards our Refurb: Building Lives project. There are lots of ways to give but over the next 6 weeks we will be particularly asking all of us to consider what we might be able to contribute financially towards refurbishing the building. We recognise that we are not a church of millionaires but put together, even our small contributions can make a big difference. All this is going to be started off with our Sports-tacular event on Saturday with lots of sports, games and fun activities. There really is something for everyone so please do come along between 12pm and 3pm to show your support and join in the fun. There will be lots of opportunities to give towards the project over the next few weeks ending with a celebration and thanksgiving of all that has been given at the end of October. You can either bring your gifts with you to church on a Sunday or you can give online on the Refurb page of the church website. We’re really excited about this next stage of our journey. Please continue to pray for for this project and for our community as we live God's love here.
