"I wonder how your observance of Lent is going?” That’s a question I’m guessing we’re not asked all that often, and indeed rarely ask of one another. However, I wonder whether we miss a trick; attempting to keep Lent on our own, rather than communally with our Christian brothers and sisters. I’m struck each year of the sense of community that is shared by our muslim neighbours, enquiring for example how each other’s fasting is going during the month of Ramadan.
Anyway, this coming Sunday we do have the opportunity to encourage each other in our journeying towards Easter in our all age service. It’ll be an (almost) half way MOT pitstop, assessing our spiritual health, and striving to draw closer to God as we approach the season of Easter. Do join us if you possibly can, remembering that we look to bring food to share together later after the service.
Certainly, I’m aware that these first few week of Lent have been quite tough for a number of us. However, I pray that just as Jacob was able to exclaim that 'God was in this place’ whilst on the run in Genesis 28, as reflected on last Sunday, we may still be able to see God present in the hard times that we are experiencing too.
