As I type, the sunlight is streaming through the window on the beautiful autumnal morning. It comes as sharp relief of the gloom that has accompanied most evenings this week which has coincided with our clocks going back an hour.
I was speaking to a colleague earlier this week, who remarked that his church focus on issues of morale at this time of year, for he is aware that as the nights draw in, a number of his flock get more and more dispirited. Whilst we wouldn’t want to claim that this was forefront in our minds when pulling together our “Confidence in Christ” sermon series, which is currently blessing us as a congregation, such a positive input is certainly doing us no harm.
The theme of light was also celebrated in our “Light Party” held as an alternative to halloween last Wednesday evening here at church. Again it was a joy to host children in our community together with the M13 team, as the benefits of trusting Jesus were celebrated. Indeed the celebrations are continuing over the weekend for as a part of our All Together service this coming Sunday will be welcoming Charlotte Harrison into the church family when we share in her baptism. Once more the theme of light will dominate as she (along with the rest of us) will be encouraged to:
"Shine as a light in the world, to the glory of God the Father”
I do hope you may be able to join us.
