For me, today is a day for getting organised. I love being able to relax over the summer but I am also a creature of habit and I love a good routine (and a good list) so getting organised helps me to relax and feel at peace with the world.
What brings peace to your day? Why not take some time now to get a few moments of peace as we stop to pause, ponder and pray.
Take a moment now to recognise that you are in the presence of God. It might help to slow your breathing. Take a few deep breaths in and out.
Let’s pray together the ancient prayer:
Maranatha. Come, Lord Jesus.
We say together our family prayer:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Today’s reading is Ephesians 4:11-15
The gifts he gave were that some would be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ. We must no longer be children, tossed to and fro and blown about by every wind of doctrine, by people’s trickery, by their craftiness in deceitful scheming. But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.
- What would you say are your gifts?
- How do / could your gifts contribute to equipping others? Build up others? Contribute to unity?
- What is Jesus saying to you today?
Father God, thank you for the gifts you have given me. Help me to use them for your purposes. Amen.
Say a prayer today for church unity.
On our church list today we pray for:
Veronica Lewis; Wynn Leech
Let’s finish by praying this blessing:
To our troubled world: peace from Christ.
To our searching world: love from Christ.
To our waiting world: hope from Christ.
