It was lovely to see so many of you earlier today at our morning services. As promised, here are the results of the paper plane competition (distance flown measured in steps):
Harrision Family - 31 steps
Davis Family - 15 steps
I hope you are all having a lovely bank holiday weekend and, if you find yourself at a lose end, why not make a paper aeroplane and see if you can beat the Harrisons' high score.
Take a moment now to recognise that you are in the presence of God. It might help to slow your breathing. Take a few deep breaths in and out.
Let’s proclaim together:
This is the day that the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
We say together our family prayer:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Today’s reading is Mark 14:32-36
They went to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” He took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be distressed and agitated. And he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and keep awake.” And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. He said, “Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you want.”
How do you respond to the idea of Jesus being deeply grieved?
How do you respond to Jesus' words to the Father?
What is Jesus saying to you today?
Jesus, thank you for being willing to the cross for us. Help me to have the same willingness to follow you, even when it is hard. Amen
Say a prayer today for those who don’t know God.
On our church list today we pray for:
Gina, Rosalia. And Mathilde Alfonso
Judith and Paul Keeble
Let’s finish by saying this blessing:
May the Lord bless us and watch over us,
the Lord make his face shine upon us
and be gracious to us,
the Lord look kindly on us and give us peace.
