This week is certainly shaping up to be a week of change. Yesterday we began looking at how we could reopen some of our Postive Steps activities safely. As a task, it is both exciting and daunting all at the same time although it was really encouraging to realise that perhaps more is possible than I had originally anticipated. We'll be continuing to make preparations for a little while longer yet but hopefully we'll have some news for you soon.
It's a strange new world that we live in. It can sometimes be full of disappointment and worry as things that we have cherished or have looked forward to change or are cancelled. But, if we choose to look closely, the world is also full of new possibilities and hope. May we see them today.
Take a moment now to recognise that you are in the presence of God. It might help to slow your breathing. Take a few deep breaths in and out.
Let’s pray together the ancient prayer:
Maranatha. Come, Lord Jesus.
We say together our family prayer:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Today’s reading is John 12:35-36
Jesus said to them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you do not know where you are going. While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become children of light.”
This is Jesus’ response to the crowd who are confused by Jesus' statement that he will die. It is shortly after the Triumphal entry into Jerusalem.
- What do you think Jesus means when he tells them to walk in the light?
- What do you think Jesus means by the phrase “believe in the light, so that you may become children of light?”
- What is Jesus saying to you today?
Father God, thank you for the gift of your Son. Help us to walk in his light today and always. Amen.
Say a prayer today for those who feel that they are overwhelmed by darkness.
On our church list today we pray for:
Alison, Michelle and Claudine and Malique
Dilu, Anna, Daniella and Danet Varughuse
Let’s finish by praying this blessing:
To our troubled world: peace from Christ.
To our searching world: love from Christ.
To our waiting world: hope from Christ.
