I hope you are having a great week. I have been enjoying making the most of some of the brilliant opportunities available to us during the week. On Monday Coryn (our Westcott student) and I went along to the confidence workshop at the Women's Footprints Group where we thought about the things in life that bring us joy and make us feel confident. We then drew those things on a shield that we could take away. It was interesting to notice how many of those things that bring us joy or make us feel confident seem to so easily get pushed out of our lives and a few of us commented on how we felt challenged to do those things a bit more. In the afternoon I went out into Manchester with Women's Fellowship Group, Top 50's Group and others who drop into the centre to a ceramics workshop. We got to have a go at making jugs, bowls or vases out of clay but as well as the pottery there was also a lot of fun and laughter.
Yesterday I was back in the church centre chatting with the Refurb group about ways to fund these exciting plans for the building that we have been talking about for quite a while now. We know that it is going to take some work and will need all of us to help to make it a reality but we're really hopeful for how the changes to the building could enable us to be an even bigger blessing to the community. Then this morning, Coryn and I were out and about again exploring our community in the beautiful sunshine and enjoying the rich diversity of our parish and were back just in time to join in a sing-a-long with the Toddler group.
I think the overall word to describe the week so far has been joy. Even if this week is not a joyful one for you, be encouraged by Simon's words to us this Sunday that Jesus meets us where we are at. So whether you are feeling joyful or not, whether you are feeling close to God or far away, whether you can declare your deep love for Jesus or, like Peter in our reading on Sunday, you need Jesus to lower the bar of expectation a little bit, be confident in the knowledge that Jesus will meet you where you are right now.
Have a fantastic week and, if you get the chance, why not have a go at our Women's Footprints activity and list or draw the things that make you feel joyful or confident. You might be suprised about what you discover about yourself and the person God has made you to be.
